Core Cities Summit 2006

Core Cities Summit 2006 - Delivering a new deal for cities

This year's Core Cities Summit was held on June 26th and 27th in Bristol.

The summit brought together stakeholders from the cities, government and regional and national organisations to reinforce Core Cities' commitment to accelerating economic and social progress and strengthening Britain's international competitiveness.

The summit focused on progressing common themes and proposals that have emerged in the cities' business cases submitted to government - and on achieving a better collective understanding of how shared outcomes can be reinforced and delives part of the 'New Deal for Cities, Towns and Regions'.

The summit provided a further opportunity for government and the cities to continue the dialogue that has been established on a range of key issues. These include the leadership and governance of cities and city-regions; growth and building sustainable communities; employment and skills; transport; and enterprise and innovation.

Speakers at the event included Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Rt. Hon. Ruth Kelly MP and Financial Secretary to HM Treasury, John Healey MP along with other significant national figures.
