Newcastle
Newcastle is the economic hub of the North East.
A £92m investment programme in the urban centre ‘Accelerated Development Zone’ is stimulating business and jobs growth.
This is adding to the city’s existing economic strengths, which include:
- World-leading facilities for subsea technology development and supply.
- One of the largest clusters of games development companies outside of London, and home to the UK’s largest global games production studio.
- A UK City of Science with world-class strengths in the fields of healthy ageing, medical science and sustainability.
Newcastle is home to an International Airport, and is located near the mouth of the River Tyne – these provide a gateway to the region and key routes to international markets.
Over £250m investment in cultural regeneration has also created a strong visitor economy, worth £1.37bn to the area.
