We need to think about the places we call home and how the services we use can be smarter and more joined up.

We need a ‘place-based’ approach that will see local leadership align public investment and commissioning within a city or city region and spend it on priorities defined by local people.

We need a system that:

  • Is founded upon a fair system of redistribution, in particular recognising some of the unique challenges faced in cities and towns.
  • Ensures there is enough funding in the pot deliver high quality services and unleash the economic potential of places
  • Takes a more comprehensive, long-term look at how places are funded, including the reform of existing local taxes, working out how our approach to place funding could be better harnessed to drive national policy ambitions.
