Economic

Cardiff lies at the heart of the Cardiff Capital Region and also plays a key role in the Western Gateway Partnership area covering South Wales and Western England.

According to PWC's Good Growth Index, Cardiff has good work-life balance and income distribution, and skills, especially in younger people.

Knowledge-intensive services have played their part in Cardiff’s ongoing progress, with around a fifth of the city’s workforce employed in these sectors, and especially the creative community anchored on the BBC’s presence in the city. There is also evidence that Bristol’s strength in the creative sector is spilling over into Cardiff due to its proximity.

Current highlights

Signature projects that are underway or recently completed:

  •  Atlantic Wharf regeneration including construction of a new 15,000-seater indoor Arena in Cardiff Bay

  • Ongoing construction of new Central Quay development; Central Square development has been completed, including new BBC Cymru Wales headquarters and new bus station
